A Welcome Message from the Chairman
Welcome to the Madison-Bond Workforce Investment Board’s Website. For nearly a dozen years the board has been dedicated to ensuring that the region’s workforce needs are met and that the area remains competitive in an ever increasing global economy.
Among the MBWIB’s more recent accomplishments are: the launching of the Partners in Progress website; the re-branding of the one-stop workforce system, which is now known as Southwestern Illinois workNet; the creation of the Great River Workforce Development Corporation Scholarship Program; the co-sponsoring of the annual Southwestern Illinois Entrepreneurship Summit; the expansion of business services; the Venice Youth Work Program; and the National Emergency Grant Flood Clean-up Project. The MBWIB also sponsored its first Career Day in 2008, which was held at Triad High School, and was attended by over 300 students.
In April 2008 the MBWIB spearheaded a partnership with the Mid America Workforce Investment Board, the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois, and other key regional stakeholders, who represent education, business, labor and government, to develop a regional economic development plan. The plan, which is being called Vision 20-20, builds upon the 2003 Workforce21 Audit, which provided the Madison-Bond and Mid America workforce boards guidance in addressing the region’s workforce shortages, but it will be much more expansive in scope.
Although much has been accomplished over the past few years, the challenges facing the local workforce have never been greater. That being said, I am confident that the MBWIB will continue to rise to the challenges of the changing workforce and serve the region well.
